Kyiv's Independence Square has always been the center of Ukraine's active political life, and the underground passage beneath it has been a popular location for meeting friends. In the 1980s, an unknown amateur photographer took a series of pictures that show what the legendary "pipe" looked like back then.

The published photos show what the underground passage on Maidan Nezalezhnosti looked like back then, which was known as "pipe" for its long passages. In the 1990s, this place was a popular recreational location for the capital's youth, as well as a kind of "shopping center." Later, many retail outlets appeared here, where, among other things, one could buy souvenirs, alcohol, etc.

The city authorities then decided to ban trade there, so almost all the kiosks were removed. However, flower sellers still work here, as before.

After the camera was invented, there were enthusiasts all over the world who took photos of different locations. Kyiv was the target too, with photos from the early 1900s found in the Washington Library.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, among Kyiv restaurants that were known not only in our country but also far beyond its borders, there was one named after the Silver Land of Ukraine, Transcarpathia. Here, visitors sat in wine barrels and enjoyed Ukrainian and European dishes.
