Netflix is adapting "The Chronicles of Narnia": everything about the new movie

In the noughties, the film adaptation of the fantasy novels from "The Chronicles of Narnia" series by British writer Clive Staples Lewis became a real cinematic event. However, the development of the franchise stopped after the release of the third film, "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader."
Apparently, the streaming platform Netflix is trying to bring the project back to life. CBN has collected everything that is currently known about the upcoming film based on "The Chronicles of Narnia."
It is expected that the co-writer and director of two films based on C.S. Lewis' books will be Greta Gerwig, the director of
"Marriage Story" and "Barbie." It is known that her candidacy was approved back in 2023, just before the release of the super-successful Barbie movie.
Also, British casting platforms have already posted messages about the search for actors for the project. The UK is looking for young talent to play the main roles in the upcoming film. BAFTA-nominated casting director Nina Gold is reportedly looking for "two children, a boy and a girl, to play the roles of characters aged 10 or 11." It is known that Gold was the casting director for "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," which was released in 2010.

The fact that the film's team is looking for a boy and a girl to play the main roles may hint that the seventh part of "The Chronicles of Narnia," subtitled "The Sorcerer's Stone," may be the next to be adapted. This part is chronologically a prequel to the whole story and tells how 12-year-old Digory and 11-year-old Polly find a portal to the magical world in the forest.
Meanwhile, Collider has published the words of British actor Jason Isaacs, who also hinted at preparations for the filming of the adaptation of "The Magician's Nephew." According to some reports, the rehearsal and filming period should last from June to the end of 2025. There have also been rumors in the press that Netflix is negotiating the release of its version of "The Chronicles of Narnia" in IMAX cinemas, which is quite atypical, as the platform's policy does not provide for theatrical release of its projects.
There are no estimated dates for the release of Netflix's adaptation of "The Chronicles of Narnia." Only Bloomberg wrote about the service's plans to release the movie by Christmas in 2026.
The first three Narnia films, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," "Prince Caspian," and "The Dawn Treader," were released in 2005, 2008, and 2010, respectively. In total, they collected 1.5 billion dollars in the global box office.
