How Hostynnyi Dvir has changed over the past 48 years

Without exaggeration, Hostynnyi Dvir is one of the hallmarks of Podil in Kyiv. Thanks to the camera of an amateur photographer, we can see what the the building looked like in 1976 before a large-scale reconstruction.

The archival photos were published in the community "Old Photos of Kyiv" on Facebook. Over the course of 200 years, the appearance of this complex has changed several times.

"Kontraktova Square. Hostynnyi Dvir before the reconstruction of the 1980s. 1976 photo," the post says.

The published photo shows the "old" building before it was destroyed. It was already in a state of disrepair even then. In addition, the community's subscribers posted another photo of it from the 1860s.

Hostynnyi Dvir in Kyiv is a monumental shopping complex on Kontraktova Square in Podil, partially built in 1809-1813 to the design of Luigi Rusca.

It was rebuilt in 1828-1833 according to the design of A. Melenskyi. It was demolished and rebuilt according to the original design by L. Rusko in 1983-1990. A large-scale reconstruction began in 2013.
