Celtics forward has a new deal with the club

Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum has agreed to extend his contract with the team for five years for $314 million, ESPN reports, citing its sources. This is the largest contract in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The same information is confirmed by reputable insider Shams Charania on X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier, Tatum's teammate Jaylen Brown was the one to sign the largest deal: he will receive $287 million.

Tatum, 26, led Boston to its 18th NBA title with a five-game victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals, having 22.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 7.2 assists.

The 203 cm tall forward, who was drafted by the Celtics with the third overall pick in 2017, has developed into one of the NBA's biggest stars, and, together with Jaylen Brown, has formed arguably the best tandem in the league.

The two largest contracts in NBA history by total value now belong to the Celtics superstar duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Earlier, the Celtics also agreed to extend the contract of guard Derrick White. Now every player on Boston's starting lineup has a contract until at least 2025-2026. This season alone, the contracts of Tatum, Brown, White, Jrue Holiday, and Kristaps Porzingis will total $198.5 million.

Tatum has been selected to the NBA All-Star Game five times, including being included in the NBA All-Star First Team for the past three seasons. After winning a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, he is also on the U.S. roster for the Paris Olympics this summer.
