Media: Euro 2024 team agrees to play Russia

The Serbian national soccer team may become the first European national team to play the Russians after their suspension from international matches. The friendly match may take place as early as March next year and will be held on the territory of the aggressor country.

This was reported by tanjug.rs. According to the portal, the football federations of both countries have already agreed to hold the meeting, but its organization still needs to be authorized by the European Football Union (UEFA) and the International Football Federation (FIFA). The final decision will depend on them.

If the governing bodies approve the match, it will take place on March 21 or 22 at the Gazprom Arena stadium in St. Petersburg. It will be one of the stages of the Serbian national team's preparation for the final part of the 2024 European Championship, where the Balkans will play in the same group as England, Denmark and Slovenia.

It should be noted that last year the Russians planned to play a sparring match with Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, the latter's players refused to play with representatives of the aggressor country. Since the Russian army invaded Ukraine, the Russian national team has played nine international friendly matches with teams from Asia and Africa.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, honorary president of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Vyacheslav Koloskov categorically opposed the transfer of teams from the aggressor country from Europe to Asia, calling it a swamp.
