Manchester United wants to buy the goalkeeper of the Ukrainian national football team
Real Madrid's Ukrainian goalkeeper Andrii Lunin has received a transfer offer from Manchester United, okdiario.com reports. According to media reports, the English club is going to sign the 25-year-old Ukrainian national team player, who this season has finally established himself as Madrid's No. 1.
Lunin, whose contract expires in June 2025 and who is currently focused on his national team, has not yet decided on his future.
A few months ago, Real Madrid's sports management took the Ukrainian's departure for granted, as the club's intention was not to extend his contract but to make money on him.
Courtois' injury just a week before the start of La Liga last August forced the management of the "creamy" team to move quickly in the market and rent Kepa Arrizabalaga, who belonged to Chelsea. The Spaniard started several times because Ancelotti had doubts about Lunin's performance.
"However, the injury knocked the Spaniard out of the Real Madrid lineup and opened the doors of glory for the Ukrainian. This time, Lunin did not miscalculate and delivered a string of performances unseen before since he signed with Madrid," the article says.
The authors of the article argue that while the Ukrainian footballer is mastering his new and far-from-easy role as Real Madrid's main goalkeeper, the Royal club is rethinking the situation with goalkeepers. While it was planned to keep Kepa and let Lunin leave before Christmas, the situation has now changed dramatically. Madrid will bring Arrizabalaga back to Chelsea and will most likely offer Andrii a contract extension.
The first thing that confirms this version is the new injury that Kepa suffered, which is why the Spanish goalkeeper will not play for about two months while maintaining the importance of the Ukrainian in the team.
"Lunin makes it clear that his priority is to play. If it's at Real Madrid, great, but he wouldn't mind moving to a club like Manchester United, which is one of the most popular teams in the world and participates in competitions that are popular in the Premier League. The Ukrainian's decision will be for sporting reasons rather than economic ones, as he does not want to live under Courtois' long shadow again or devote himself to the hard work of a backup goalkeeper," the Spanish publication writes.
It will be recalled that 24-year-old Ukraine goalkeeper Andrii Lunin joined Real Madrid from Luhansk's Zorya in July 2018 for €3.5 million. Since then, he has played on loan at Leganes, Real Valladolid, and Real Oviedo.
