Make your summer unforgettable: top 5 most popular international travel destinations in 2024
Summer is a time for adventure, relaxation, and new experiences. Every year, millions of people from all over the world travel to discover new horizons, learn about different cultures, and enjoy unique landscapes.
The year 2024 is no exception, as, after several years of restrictions caused by the pandemic, people are once again eager to get out of their country. Therefore, Airalo has compiled a rating of the five most popular international destinations for summer travel according to Google Flights search data collected from January 2024 to March 2024.
The choice of travel destinations always depends on many factors: climate, cultural and natural attractions, gastronomic attractions, outdoor amenities, and much more.
5. Cancun
Cancun is a large resort city in Mexico that has long been a favorite vacation spot for many tourists. In 2022 alone, 9.5 million international passengers arrived there by air.
Its proximity to the United States and a large number of direct flights boost its ranking among American travelers. Generally, people are most attracted to the white sand beaches, the Caribbean Sea, and historical ruins, including Chichen Itza and Tulum.
4. Rome
History buffs appreciate Rome for its ancient architecture that still stands among the most modern parts of the city. The most famous tourist attraction is probably the Colosseum, a huge amphitheater that has been hosting gladiatorial fights, animal hunts, and other public spectacles since the first century.
Visitors strolling through the city can also see other sights of its long, legendary history, including the ancient aqueducts, the Roman Forum, and the Pantheon. And after the excursions, people can taste authentic local cuisines, such as the famous carbonara, cacio e pepe, and soups.
3. Tokyo
Japan is a place where ancient traditions meet modern technologies. According to the National Tourism Organization, in March 2024, the country received a record number of foreign visitors, namely 3.1 million people, many of whom arrived in the capital.
Travelers like to visit the lively Senso-ji temple, the oldest temple in Tokyo, and generally enjoy the unusual Asian atmosphere. Tokyo, with its skyscrapers and bright neon signs, offers tourists a huge number of experiences.
2. Paris
Paris remains one of the most tourist-heavy cities in the world. Many tourists head to the Eiffel Tower to take pictures of the world's most visited attraction, and then go to the gardens under the tower, which are free to access.
Another iconic stop in Paris is the world's largest museum, the Louvre. And of course, when in France, you can't miss their authentic cheese and pastries.
1. London
The capital of the United Kingdom is the most popular international destination this summer for U.S. travelers. One of the best places in London, which is one of the oldest, is the former royal palace, the Tower of London, built in 1066 by William the Conqueror and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, and the London Eye are also worth visiting during your trip. London is also famous for its green spaces. Parks such as Hyde Park, Regent's Park, and Kensington Gardens are ideal places for outdoor recreation.
