Which cities in the world are the best for living, investment and tourism

The best cities in Europe for residents and tourists have been revealed, each of which is included in the annual ranking in terms of prosperity and livability. The most popular destinations on the continent were evaluated by Resonance Consultancy, which took into account factors such as Tripadvisor reviews, education and work opportunities, as well as dozens of other indicators.

More than 180 cities with a population of more than 500,000 were reviewed to determine the top 100 best cities to live, visit and invest in in Europe. For the second year in a row, the ranking was headed by the capital of Great Britain - London. It is reported by the Daily Mail. Interestingly, the capital of the dictatorship, Belarusian Minsk, made it to the top, taking 77th place.

Milan, Italy

Milan, known for its fashion week, attracts tourists looking for the finer things in life. It has also long been the country's financial capital, and investment has continued to strengthen its status as Italy's richest city and one of the richest in Europe.

In 2026, the locals are expecting an influx of sports fans as Italy hosts the Winter Olympics and also has good connections by air, bike, and train.

Istanbul, Turkey

This ancient city on the edge of Europe, where east meets west, is known for its rich history and culture. The ancient monuments in the Turkish capital are expected to be renovated as part of the 100th anniversary of the republic, so more tourists will arrive after the work is completed.

Investments in Galataport, the world's first underground cruise terminal, will also attract travelers. The city has an enviably low cost of living for locals, although real estate prices are rising.

Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Having gained a reputation in recent years as one of the best cities in Europe when it comes to partying and entertainment, Amsterdam has tried to clean up its act and focus on livability, Resonance suggests.

Smoking cannabis in public places was banned in 2023, and the city launched a "Stay Away" campaign aimed at party tourism, although neither seems to have had much of an impact on the city's popularity. Tourists still choose the Dutch capital for its famous museums and excellent shopping.

Barcelona, Spain

This seaside city attracts people from all over the world due to its stunning location, weather, and unusual architecture. Interestingly, the jewel in its crown, the famous Gouda Church, will be completed in almost a century and a half.

Given the 12 million tourists who traveled to the Spanish city before the pandemic, it is expected that in four years these numbers will rise again to a similar level.

Prague, Czech Republic

The Czech capital will not disappoint visitors with its beauty and cultural offer. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Franz Kafka's death in 2024, literary walking tours and exhibitions dedicated to the author are being held in the writer's hometown.

Among the attractions are the Chapadlo embankment on the Vltava River, where open-air stages and galleries are installed, as well as the recently renovated and publicly accessible Prague Castle.

Rome, Italy

Resonance describes Rome as an "urban treasure" and emphasizes its "underrated parks and green alleys" and "thousands of portals to the past." According to the companies' analysis, the fourth-ranked city is second only to London in terms of the number of positive global reviews on Tripadvisor.

Berlin, Germany

The German capital is called a haven - a center of tolerance that welcomes people regardless of their background. It is highly regarded as a place to live for foreigners and also attracts vacationers with a selection of museums and other cultural offerings.

In June, the city will also host Euro 2024, the first major football tournament in the country since the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Paris, France

The city is set to be the star of the European show this summer as France hosts the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. In addition to serving the millions of visitors expected to visit the French capital this year, the events will benefit its residents.

"With half a decade and billions of dollars invested in preparations for this summer's Olympic Games, Paris has codified a walking, cycling and free lifestyle," Resonance writes.

London, UK

For the second year in a row, London has beaten its European neighbors to the top of the rankings thanks to its offerings for tourists and students. Despite Brexit and other challenges, it also continues to be a major business center that attracts global investment.

Tourists are still flooding into Heathrow and other travel hubs, and London was ranked third on the planet (and first in Europe) among the cities with the highest spending by international travelers in 2022 at €14.88 billion, showing that it continues to be a must-see.
