The first mention of Dresden dates back to 1206. At that time, a small Slavic settlement appeared on the banks of the Elbe River. Over time, Dresden became an important trading center and the residence of the Saxon electors.

Dresden really flourished in the 18th century, when the city became one of the most beautiful and richest in Europe. Thanks to the efforts of Elector Augustus the Strong, Dresden turned into a real pearl of the Baroque.

The Second World War caused terrible damage to Dresden. As a result of the bombing, the city was almost destroyed.

After the war, large-scale work began to restore Dresden. The city was restored with respect for historical traditions.
