Today's Naddniprianske Highway is one of the busiest highways in Kyiv. But, of course, it wasn't always like this.

The Telegram channel "Kyiv Historical" published a picture taken in 1958. It resembles a shot from a black-and-white French New Wave film: the same close-up that fits an entire scene of city life, the same natural light.

However, there are significantly fewer cars. Nowadays, Naddniprianske Highway is one of the 17 key transportation arteries of the capital. Some speed limits do not even apply here.

In the frame, we see only two cars driving off in different directions, along the banks of the Dnipro River.

Historically, the street where the highway was built was called Myshylovska. However, during the German occupation, it was changed to Pecherske Highway because it leads to the Pechersk district.

After the end of World War II, when the intensive development of Kyiv began, this area acquired special significance. And it got its modern name. It has been called the Naddniprianske Highway since 1952. And this name did not need to be decommunized.

The modern Naddniprianske highway has 4 lanes in each direction and several traffic interchanges. It is also lined with high-rise buildings. It is even a little hard to believe when you look at the picture with one- and two-story houses that stood here seven decades ago.
