Legendary Bjorndalen breaks the "eternal record" at the Biathlon World Cup

Norway's Tarjei Bøgh, the leader of the national team, won the Small Crystal Globe in the sprint at the 9th stage in Kenmore, Canada, and became the oldest winner of the sprint event at the Biathlon World Cups. The native of Stryun won the trophy at the age of 35 years and 230 days.

In the 2023/204 season, Tarjei scored 384 points in seven sprint races, ahead of his younger brother Johannes (324 points).

The previous achievement belonged to the legendary Norwegian biathlete Ole Einar Bjoerndalen. The eight-time Olympic champion and twenty-time world champion took first place in the sprints in the 2008/2009 season. At that time, he was 35 years and 58 days old.

For 15 years, no one could break this record, which is why it was called "eternal" online.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Tarja's younger brother Johannes Thingnes Bjo set a world record for the number of victories in sprint biathlon. The first place in Kenmore was the 37th victory in this discipline for the 30-year-old five-time Olympic champion.

Bjørndalen is married to four-time Olympic biathlon champion Daria Domracheva.

Last year, the 37-year-old native of Minsk, who in 2020 did not condemn the Lukashenko regime for its brutal suppression of protests in her home country, spoke out against the exclusion of athletes from Russia and Belarus from international competitions.
