Kia has created an unusual hybrid with a huge range: description of the Niro Tri-Fuel model

Kia presented the Niro Tri-Fuel hybrid

Kia has introduced an innovative hybrid crossover, the Niro Tri-Fuel, which can cover up to 1600 km without refueling. This is made possible by a combination of an electric motor, a gasoline engine and a system that runs on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

A special feature of the model is an additional LPG tank located under the trunk floor in the place of the spare wheel. It holds 40 liters of LPG, while the main gas tank is designed for 42 liters. This solution helps to significantly increase the travel range and reduce fuel consumption, according to the manufacturer's website.

Thanks to its hybrid system, the Niro Tri-Fuel not only reduces CO₂ emissions by 6% compared to conventional hybrids, but also offers drivers more refueling options. The car is the first model in Italy to support full LPG operation in a hybrid configuration.

The car is powered by a 1.6-liter 90 hp atmospheric engine, which is paired with a 43 hp electric motor. The total power of the system is 126 hp, and the torque is 195 lb-ft. This allows the car to effectively combine dynamism and efficiency.

The fuel modes are controlled via a separate button next to the start switch. The driver can switch to LPG at any time by monitoring the fuel level through the indicators on the panel.

The conversion to LPG was carried out by BRC, part of Westport Fuel Systems Italia, and Kia retains the full seven-year or 150,000 km warranty on the vehicle. Kia estimates that the use of LPG will help the owner save up to €5,000 on fuel.

However, the new version will cost €2,000 more than the standard Niro. The starting price of the basic configuration is 34,450 euros, and the flagship model will cost 39,200 euros.
