There are many Ukrainians who, despite threats and difficulties, fought for the education of the people and changed education. Most citizens of our country do not know about the contribution of some of them.

Ivan Pului is a physicist who discovered X-rays. He also translated the first geometry textbook and was actively involved in the translation of spiritual literature into Ukrainian. He supported the opening of a Ukrainian university in Lviv, was a member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, organized scholarships for students in Austria-Hungary, and published articles in support of the Ukrainian language.
Sofiia Rusova is a Ukrainian educator and public figure. The key achievement of the educator during her career is the formation of the national education system. She founded the first kindergartens in Ukraine and introduced progressive teaching methods. The Ukrainian woman created Sunday schools, wrote textbooks for Ukrainian schools, and was active in the Enlightenment and the women's movement. Her works "Preschool Education" and "Ukrainian School" became the basis of Ukrainian education. Rusova is called a woman who broke the system and built a new one.
Borys Hrinchenko was a writer, educator, and public figure. He compiled a dictionary of the Ukrainian language in four volumes, which was the most lexically perfect at the beginning of the twentieth century. Hrinchenko created the first textbooks for Ukrainian schools, which became the basis for teaching in the native language. He compiled a primer that he used to teach children. He actively wrote his works and made translations. After all, there were not enough textbooks for studying.
Oleksandr Lototskyi was a statesman, public figure, writer, and educator. The educator was engaged in reforming the education system during the Ukrainian People's Republic. The educator was one of the founders of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and worked on the creation of scientific institutions and educational programs, achieved the publication of the complete edition of Kobzar and the decision of the Russian Academy of Sciences "On the abolition of the restriction of the Little Russian printed word."
Ahatanhel Krymsky was an orientalist, linguist, and writer. He was one of the founders of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, where he headed the Department of Orientalism. Krymsky made a great contribution to the study of oriental languages and cultures. He was fluent in more than 60 languages and taught at Kyiv University. His works on the history, philology, and culture of the East had a great influence on the development of Ukrainian science.
Ivan Ohienko is a linguist, church historian, and public figure. He was the author of numerous textbooks and scientific works on the Ukrainian language, history, and culture. His textbooks were widely used in Ukrainian educational institutions. Ogienko also worked on the translation of the Bible into Ukrainian. His work had a significant impact on the formation of national identity and the preservation of Ukrainian traditions in education and science.
Olena Kurylo was a linguist and the author of the first Ukrainian language textbook for schools. She made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian philology. Her scientific works and teaching methods influenced the formation of modern Ukrainian linguistics. Kurylo was actively engaged in research in grammar, phonetics, and lexicology. Olena was arrested and sentenced to eight years in camps for belonging to the "Ukrainian counter-revolutionary nationalist underground."
