It's official. The undefeated Ukrainian champion boxer has a new opponent. The date of the fight has been announced
Ukrainian WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs) will officially make his first title defense against American Keyshawn Davis (12-0, 8 KOs). The fight will take place on February 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The 36-year-old native of Krasnodon, Luhansk region, won the vacant belt on May 18 last year by defeating Emmanuel Navarette. His opponent Keyshawn Davis knocked out Gustavo Lemos in the second round in his last fight on November 8.
Top Rank CEO Bob Arum said that this fight promises to be a lightweight classic, noting that Davis will face a serious test against the undefeated Ukrainian champion.
Berinchyk emphasized that he was not going to make any loud statements, warning his opponent that the fight would be difficult. Davis, in turn, called the fight a chance he had been waiting for and invited all viewers to follow it on ESPN or live.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, on December 8, Turki Al Al-Sheikh excluded Denys from the participants of the Usyk-Fury 2 show. The grand event is scheduled for December 21 in Riyadh.
Initially, Al al-Sheikh wrote that Berinchyk was to defend his title in a fight with the British Sam Knox as part of this boxing night. But then this pair disappeared from the schedule.
