It will not be bitter and give a large harvest: how to water pepper correctly

Some vegetables that we grow in our gardens sometimes start to taste bitter. There can be several reasons for this, one of the main ones being improper watering.

In particular, this happens with peppers. Gardening experts say that this problem can be avoided. OBOZ.UA tells you how to properly water this crop to get a sweet and juicy harvest.

How much moisture does pepper need

Sweet peppers are moisture-loving crops that need quite abundant watering to produce a good harvest. If you give the plants too little water, they can begin to lose leaves, flowers, and even ovaries. Vegetables are small and not juicy when there is a lack of water.

For a plant to develop well, water must penetrate the soil in which it grows 60-70 centimeters deep. Before applying moisture, make a depression near the bush where it would be absorbed and not spread over the surface of the earth.

If the weather is hot and sunny, the vegetable needs daily watering and 1-3 liters per bush. In cool and cloudy periods, its frequency can be reduced to once every 2-3 days. In rainy periods, you do not need to additionally moisten the soil, because excessive watering is also harmful. The optimum water temperature for watering peppers is 20-22 degrees. It is better not to water them cold, as this will slow down their growth.

If the plant has already developed fruits, watering is reduced to 2 times a week. At the same time, 10-11 liters are applied for each square meter of the garden. If you water the peppers once a week due to natural conditions and other circumstances, then apply 15-16 liters.

When and how to water peppers

Both morning and evening are good times to moisten a bed of peppers. The main thing is to avoid the scorching sun. It quickly evaporates moisture and burns the leaves through the droplets that settle on them.

Pepper bushes should be properly watered at the root. Drip irrigation will keep the soil moisture level at an optimum level, but manual irrigation will be quite effective.

Once every 2-4 weeks, you should apply fertilizer for peppers along with water. When the plant grows green mass and blooms, it needs nitrogen. During the period of fruit development, it is better to focus on phosphorus and potassium.

Nitrogen fertilizers should not be applied more than once a month, otherwise nitrates can begin to accumulate in the peppers. If you want to provide the plant with a balanced diet, mix 5 grams of superphosphate and 10 grams of urea in 10 liters of water. You need 0.5 liters of this solution per bush.
