It will fold: details about the upcoming version of Apple's iPad have been leaked online
The first foldable smartphones have already appeared on the gadget market and have begun to attract significant interest from buyers. And Apple has decided to catch up with this trend.
According to 9 to 5 Mac, citing reputable insider journalist Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the Cupertino-based tech giant is the first to release a foldable tablet. And the first iPad of this type may appear in 2028. Gurman describes it as "a bit like a giant iPad that folds out to the size of two iPad Pros placed side by side."
The main focus of the gadget's development is an attempt to avoid creases on the fold. According to insiders, Apple has already managed to make the crease almost invisible, but it has not yet managed to eliminate it completely. It is known that Samsung, which is considered a pioneer in the folding gadget market, has not been able to solve this issue either.
As for the characteristics of the foldable iPad, it is likely that its screen will have a diagonal of 20 inches or so. Gourmet describes it as "a single, solid piece of glass." Apple seems to be focusing its strategy for now on creating much larger screens that will fit in your backpack, rather than developing a pocket-sized device.
Speaking of the operating system, Gurman suggests that the product will most likely run on the iPadOS version. However, there is one interesting detail here. According to the journalist, the new product is more likely to be a hybrid of something close to the iPad-Mac combination and will have both elements. By 2028, iPadOS should be advanced enough to run macOS programs, Gurman believes. Although it is unclear whether this is really part of Apple's plans or just the journalist's assumptions.
