In Russia, the two largest airlines have been banned from flights to Egypt: the reason has been disclosed

Russia's two largest airlines, Aeroflot and Rossiya, have been prohibited from flying to Egypt due to the risk of arrest for 27 Boeing and Airbus aircraft.

This information was reported by the Russian newspaper Izvestia. Last week, Rosaviatsiya sent a telegram to Aeroflot and Rossiya airlines, instructing them not to operate flights to Egypt with 27 aircraft.

The ban came into effect on January 12 and will remain in place until a special decision is made. Rosaviation issued the telegram immediately after receiving information through closed channels about the potential arrest risks for these aircraft at Egyptian airports.

"Aeroflot was advised not to fly to Egypt with 24 aircraft: ten Airbus A320s, nine Boeing 777-300ERs, four Airbus A321s, and one Airbus A350. Rossiya Airlines received advice regarding three Boeing 737-800s.

Currently, neither of the companies operates flights to Egypt using these aircraft. Rossiya Airlines clarified that this decision does not impact the implementation of the carrier's production program.

All these aircraft are owned by the State Transport Leasing Company (DTLC). The High Court of Ireland has been attempting to seize 37 of the company's aircraft since last year. In addition to these 27, another ten are operated by S7, Aurora, and Yamal, which do not fly to Egypt.

As previously reported by OBOZ.UA, Russia had to allocate over $12 billion in government subsidies and loans to support the aviation sector. This funding includes direct financial assistance to local airlines. The reason behind this financial support is that Russian civil aviation has encountered challenges such as a shortage of critical parts and issues with aircraft maintenance, following the severe impact of Western sanctions.
