In Kyiv, St. Mykhailo's Cathedral bid farewell to the military and former political prisoner Serhiy Pavlichenko. The defender of Ukraine was fatally wounded on November 18 near the village of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region.

On Wednesday, November 29, in Kyiv, a farewell ceremony took place at St. Michael's Cathedral for the military and former political prisoner Serhii Pavlichenko. In 2022, he joined the 78th Airborne Regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and valiantly defended Ukraine until his last breath. Serhii passed away on November 18 near the village of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Family, friends, and residents of Kyiv gathered to bid farewell to the defender. A scarf adorned with the symbols of Dynamo Kyiv was placed in his coffin, as he was an avid fan of the capital's club. Pavlichenko is survived by his parents, grandparents, and wife.

The hero will be laid to rest at the Lukianivka military cemetery.

As a reminder, in 2012, Serhii Pavlichenko was convicted in the case of the murder of judge Serhii Zubkov. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison, and his father, Dmytro Pavlichenko, was sentenced to life imprisonment.

On February 24, 2014, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the release of political prisoners. The list of political prisoners included 23 people, among them Dmytro and Serhii Pavlichenko, who had been convicted of murdering a judge. The father and son were released in February 2014. This marked the implementation of the resolution of the Parliament of Ukraine "On the Release of Political Prisoners," which stipulated the release of 23 individuals across Ukraine.
