Soon, the capital is planning to build two CHP plants that will use garbage as fuel. Thus, Kyiv is studying the experience of other cities in waste management.

This was reported by the KCSA. In particular, city officials visited Lviv and the construction sites of the mechanical and biological waste processing complex. The delegation also inspected a landfill near the village of Hrybovychi, where reclamation is underway.

"For large cities, this replacement of conventional fuels solves two problems at once: energy shortages and the problem of garbage accumulation. This practice is widely used in European cities, and we want to apply it," the KCSA said.

It is noted that in Lviv, these projects are funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, so they are important in the context of international cooperation between Ukrainian cities and the implementation of EU practices.

"The topic of waste management and treatment does not lose its urgency despite the martial law in the country. After all, the amount of waste is not decreasing, and its proper and safe disposal requires effective solutions. We see that the construction of a landfill for Lviv is actively continuing. It is important that in the future, the waste processing complex will use the potential of household waste as a source of electricity," explained Petro Panteleev, a representative of the Kyiv City State Administration.

According to him, representatives of Kyiv agreed with their Lviv colleagues on further cooperation in this area and exchange of experience for the most rational use of waste as an energy source.

"Ukraine lives in conditions of energy deficit. The enemy is trying to destroy the existing energy system with systemic attacks, depriving us of electricity and gas. Therefore, we must use all the ways and opportunities that will allow us to produce energy. This is what the Kyiv Energy Sustainability Concept (Energy Recovery: the Way to Distributed Cogeneration) is aimed at," said the KCSA representative.

On June 25, blackout schedules will be applied around the clock in Ukraine. Thus, the restrictions will be applied from 00:00 to 24:00. At the same time, twice in the next day, an enhanced blackout regime will be applied - from 02:00 to 05:00 and from 12:00 to 23:00. During this time, there will be more hours without electricity (for example, the "gray zones" of the schedules will be used). Experts say that the situation will not improve in the next 2 months.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Ukraine has lost more than 40 GW of power generation due to the occupation and destruction during the war, which poses a serious threat to the country's energy security. Particularly large losses occurred in thermal and hydroelectric generation in 2024.
