Near Sydney, they discovered the largest male of the Sydney funnel-web spider in the world

Near Sydney, Australia, the largest male Sydney funnel-web spider known to mankind, considered the most venomous species in the world, was captured. The "find" measures the size of a human palm, and its fangs can penetrate a human fingernail.

The spider, named Hercules, was taken to the Australian Reptile Park. The announcement states that it will now contribute to science by providing its venom to doctors, which will be used to save people bitten by these spiders.

Hercules has legs measuring 7.9 centimeters. He surpassed the record of another resident of the park, "Colossus," who was previously considered the largest male funnel-web spider ever found.

Emma Teney, one of the keepers, described the new resident as a "jackpot" when commenting on the addition to the reptile park's family. Sydney funnel-web spiders typically grow up to five centimeters, and females of this species are larger than males, although their venom is not as dangerous.

"We are accustomed to the park receiving quite large funnel-web spiders, but getting such a large male is like hitting the jackpot. Although female funnel-web spiders are poisonous, the males turned out to be more deadly," explained the keeper.

The funnel-web spider was found about 50 miles north of Sydney. It is one of the most aggressive and dangerous arthropods. These spiders move quickly, attack frequently, and their venom lasts for several hours.

They are mainly found in wooded areas and suburban gardens in Sydney. Before attacking, these spiders display their fangs and can bite multiple times. In critical cases, their venom can be fatal.

Fortunately, scientists already have a vaccine produced using the venom. For more than 40 years, no one has died from a bite of the Sydney funnel-web spider in Australia.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA reported that one of the deadliest cats in the world appeared in a US zoo. While captivating with its big eyes and small size, one can only sympathize with the prey of this animal.
