Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians are without electricity every hour

The power systems of Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovs'k regions suffered the greatest damage from Russian shelling. For example, in Kharkiv region, 200-250 thousand people are without electricity every hour.

This was reported by Serhiy Kovalenko, CEO of YASNO energy company. He noted that power companies in this region are unable to supply electricity to 100% of consumers.

"We have two regions that suffer the most. The first is Kharkiv. We have network restrictions there. This means that we cannot supply electricity to other parts of Ukraine, so to speak, to the city itself because of network restrictions. And for every hour there, about 200-250 thousand people are without electricity," Kovalenko said.

According to him, restrictions have been in place in Dnipropetrovs'k region since the March shelling. "They primarily affect the industry, which consumes a lot of electricity," explained the power engineer.

For our part, we would like to note that the blackout schedules in Kharkiv and the region have been updated since May 6. The current schedule is valid until May 10 inclusive.

According to this schedule, the power was supposed to be cut off for at least 3 hours a day. However, Kharkivoblenergo had previously warned that due to repair work, there could be longer power outages than those announced.

What needs to be done to improve the situation in the energy sector

For its part, the Ministry of Energy called on Ukrainians to reduce the use of energy-intensive appliances during peak times. Especially from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Industry – to review production processes to reduce the load on the power system. And also "to attract imports as much as possible to guarantee the avoidance of outages and strengthen the stability of the power system."

As reported by OBOZ.UA, at the same time, Ukraine can reduce the effectiveness of Russian strikes on the power system, in particular through decentralized generation. As explained by Ukrenergo, this principle involves the commissioning of many smaller power facilities instead of several large ones, which makes it possible to minimize the consequences of the possible destruction of any of them, as the damage will be relatively minor.
