"The first rule of wearing tights is that there are no rules," says Elizabeth Kosich, a certified image consultant and founder of Elizabeth Kosich Styling. According to Huff Post, a wide range of colors and patterns allows you to experiment.

The only advice is to choose a pair that balances the palette of your outfit. "Combine tights of a bright accent color if the dress is neutral, or a more restrained shade if the look is bright," Kosich explained.

"Subtle patterns, such as textured polka dots or delicate lace, can accentuate a simple dress, while openwork mesh creates a seductive effect," added stylist Stephanie Venita Stimmler.

Ukrainian stylist Inna Hrynenko also emphasizes that tights should be thicker in winter, as their main function is to keep you warm. Nylon models will look inappropriate.

Make tights the center of attention

"Use tights as the focal point of your outfit to add a pop of color and texture," says Kosich.

The Ukrainian stylist adds that colored tights look modern, especially textured ones. However, such a model should be worn with caution, as it can add extra volume.

The right neutrality

Of course, tights don't have to be a fashion statement. "If you're looking for a dense nude shade, I always go for an opaque option, because the color of tights doesn't always go well with your skin tone," advises stylist Kendra Sharp.

In addition, "fleece tights with a flesh-colored lining" are great for very cold days, said certified image consultant Amrita Harbajan.

However, Inna Hrynenko assures that the shade of tights can duplicate one of the colors present in the image. You can also create a total look or a monochrome outfit.

Shoes for tights

You can wear almost any kind of footwear with tights. Experts favor high heels. Another good option is low-cut boots, which give "room to show off tights" and "look extremely chic" with skirts and sweaters.

"The more unexpected the combination, the more chic it is," says Kosich. For example, "choose sneakers with micro mesh, army boots with translucent colors," she recommends.
