How to perfectly wash a white cap: useful tips
White clothes are always associated with freshness and purity. But keeping them perfectly white and stain-free is incredibly difficult.
Particular difficulties arise when you need to take care of hats rather than ordinary things. That's why House Digest has told you how to wash such a wardrobe item as a cap easily and correctly.
A white cap not only adds brightness and freshness to any look, but unlike black caps, it does not attract UV rays and does not heat up so much in the sun, making it an ideal summer accessory. However, sweat, hair products, dust, and dirt can quickly turn a snow-white hat into something unsightly. But don't be upset. The right approach to washing and a few proven tips will help restore your cap to its original appearance.
Preparing for washing: what you need to know
Before starting the washing process, be sure to read the label on the cap. If it states that the product is suitable for dry cleaning only, it is best to contact a professional. However, if it says that hand washing is acceptable, go ahead and do it.
You should also first test the effect of the cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area under the brim of the cap to make sure that the material is not damaged.
Stains
If there are only a few minor stains on the cap, spot washing is the best option. This is especially important for caps with a cardboard frame, as water can damage it.
For cleaning, you can use hydrogen peroxide, which, due to its natural bleaching properties, is good at removing sweat stains. Distilled vinegar, soapy water, or baking soda are also effective, but they must be mixed with water beforehand.
Apply the selected solution to the stain with a cotton swab, paper towel, or white microfiber cloth. Use a clean toothbrush to gently rub it into the stain and leave it on for 10 minutes. Then rinse the area with warm water. If the stain persists, repeat the procedure.
Deep cleaning
If the cap has several stains or is very dirty, you should wash it completely. To do this, mix a scoop of baking soda, a cup of hydrogen peroxide, and a tablespoon of mild detergent or dishwashing liquid in a bowl of warm water.
Soak the cap in this solution for 30 minutes, and then gently scrub it with a soft-bristled brush or toothbrush to remove any remaining dirt. Then rinse it with clean water and use a white towel to remove any excess moisture.
Drying and care after washing
The best way to dry your cap is to hang it up naturally. Using a washing machine or dryer can deform the hat.
If you still want to wash the cap in the washing machine, put it in a mesh bag or a special washing cage and select a delicate cycle. However, even in this case, dry the cap only in the air, avoiding the use of a tumble dryer.
