How to grow carrots quickly: a proven way

New gardeners may wonder whether it is possible to sow carrots in May, or whether it is too late to do so. Their more experienced colleagues assure them that it is not only not too late, but with the right approach, this is the way to get the biggest harvest.

Ukrainian YouTubers have shared an effective method. To germinate carrots quickly, you need a warm bed assembled from pallets and some covering material boards or slate. Under the conditions you create, the carrots will germinate in just two weeks and will have time to grow and ripen well during the season.

Start by preparing the soil for sowing. It needs to be loosened and carefully leveled. You also need to dig grooves in the bed about 3 cm deep. The distance between them should be at least 10 cm so that the carrots have enough space for the root system.

Water the bed well before sowing the seeds. The water will help to gently compact the soil and prevent the seed from sinking too deep.

Next, start pouring the seeds into the grooves. Do this across the entire width of the grooves. This will produce denser seedlings that can be thinned out if necessary. Cover the seeds with a not too thick layer of soil and water them again with a watering can with a diffuser.

Now it's time to insulate the bed. To do this, cover each row with a board of the appropriate length so that it fits snugly against the ground. This will help retain moisture in the soil and protect it from compaction. The board will also accumulate the sun's heat and warm the seeds better. This way you will get conditions similar to greenhouse conditions. Alternatively, you can use slate to cover the garden bed. But not film or metal – they will cause the seeds to overheat.

As soon as you notice the first sprouts of carrots, the covering material will need to be removed. Then the plants will need to receive direct sunlight for full development.
