New Year's decor

December is the time of Christmas trees, tinsel, Christmas toys and ubiquitous glitter that is everywhere. The glitter gets into every crevice and the holiday season turns into an endless cleaning chore.

Of course, this is not a reason to give up on Christmas decor or sparkling Christmas tree ornaments. Apartment Therapy has revealed how to quickly clean sofas, carpets, and floors.

How to remove glitter from the carpet

Cleaning a carpet from glitter is not an easy task as tiny particles can penetrate deep into the fibers. Angela Brown, founder and CEO of Savvy Cleaner Training, recommends several methods:

  • Use a brush attachment to help clean glitter, tinsel threads, and Christmas tree needles that often "escape" a regular vacuum cleaner;
  • go over the surface with a roller or adhesive tape.

Jennifer Rodriguez, chief hygiene officer at Pro Housekeepers, also recommends using duct tape to clean the carpet. Take a strip of masking, adhesive, or packing tape and press it against the glitter areas. Then gently lift it up to catch the tiny particles.

Marla Mock, president of Neighborly Molly Maid, recommends using a damp paper towel. Simply blot the affected area with a wet paper towel and the moisture will help lift the glitter particles from the carpet fibers.

How to remove glitter from the floor

First of all, you can quickly sweep the glitter off with a regular broom. Then you should go over the surface with a damp mop and a microfiber cloth.

When using a vacuum cleaner, use a hose with a brush attachment. Vacuum cleaners with soft or rubber wheels are less likely to damage hard floors than those with plastic ones.

For hardwood floors, wiping with a damp sponge is aceptable. Wipe off the glitter with the sponge, rinse the sponge in a bowl of water, and repeat until the glitter is gone.

How to remove glitter from a fabric sofa

Vacuum your fabric sofa with an upholstery brush attachment. You can also purchase a lint roller or adhesive tape.

If glitter remains, mix warm water and dishwashing detergent and clean the sofa with this solution. Delicate fabrics can be damaged by aggressive chemicals, so you should first test the product on an inconspicuous area.
