How to get rid of deodorant stains on clothes and what to do to prevent them from appearing again
A new white shirt or black T-shirt is a small joy that makes life better, especially when you put it on in the morning. But soon enough, you may notice stains under your armpits - these are deodorant marks that need to be washed immediately.
These traces are considered very persistent and difficult to remove. However, clothing care experts know a few life hacks to cope with the task, both on white and colored fabrics. OBOZ.UA has collected their tips.
How to properly clean clothes with deodorant stains
First, do not hesitate. Start removing them as soon as you notice traces of deodorant. Over time, these stains do become extremely stubborn and impossible to remove.
Start by taking a soft brush and rubbing it over a dry cloth to remove any hard deodorant particles. Next, rinse the garment in warm water to dilute the stain.
The next step is to use detergent. Choose a quality product that is effective against stains. Apply a little to the stained area, rub it lightly and leave it on for 20 minutes.
Do not rinse the product, but send the item to the washing machine with it. Wash the garment as usual.
To remove any residual deodorant at the end of the wash cycle, use a fabric softener. Use it according to the instructions, pouring it into the machine's tray.
When the wash is finished, remove the item from the drum and inspect it. If a stain remains, repeat the cleaning immediately. Do not put it in the dryer if there are traces of deodorant on the fabric. The heat will only solidify them.
How to remove deodorant stains from white clothes
Deodorant leaves yellow streaks on white clothes. To get rid of the residue, try treating the stained area with hot water. It can melt away unwanted traces.
First, pour boiling water over the stain and then treat it with a mixture of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and water in equal parts. After that, wash the item in the washing machine as usual. It is better to air dry such an item.
How to prevent deodorant stains
However, it's easier to prevent deodorant stains than to fight them. Here's what you can do to prevent the problem:
- wait until the deodorant is completely dry before getting dressed;
- try switching to aluminum-free products;
- pre-treat your underarms before washing every time, even if you don't see any traces of deodorant;
- wash clothes in the hottest possible water with additional products such as bleach and rinse aid.
