How to easily train a dog to respond to a name: a dog handler shares his secret

Teaching a dog to respond to a name is one of the most important commands to master, and it is often the one that causes difficulties.

Dog training expert Sam Hoke knows this all too well, so he turned to TikTok users with his golden advice for pet owners.

"Have you ever called out to your dog and he completely ignored you or wanted to run away? There's a cure for that," he says at the beginning of the video, revealing the secret to perfect training.

"Step one is to stop calling your dog when you have nothing to offer him. Think of it this way: if your friends text you every day and nine times out of ten it's just to complain, how long will it take until you stop responding?" Sam explained.

The same goes for your dog, so stop sending him "complaint messages." "When you call him, it should be worth his time," the expert continued. His strategy is simple – call your pet occasionally to give him a treat or praise him, not just to demonstrate obedience.

"It creates a positive association with coming when called," said Sam. "I'm building a habit in important places like the park." But this is not always enough.

According to the expert, it is worth training as much as possible even when the dog does something else.
