How to find hidden cameras

TikTok blogger Marcus Hutchins, who is a video surveillance expert, shared wherethere can be hidden cameras in hotel rooms or rented apartments. Such "spy" equipment can be disguised as alarm clocks, mirrors, and even smoke detectors.

Marcus posted the video with the tips that went viral on his personal TikTok account malwaretech. Since its publication, the video has already gained more than 5 million likes (to watch the video, scroll to the bottom of the page).

A smoke detector may also have a camera.

In his video, the expert showed an empty room that he had previously filled with small hidden cameras. At first glance, it seems that there is nothing unusual.

Marcus emphasized that if you suspect there is someone watching you, you should first try to find equipment that captures the most interesting places: bathroom, bedroom, or workplace.

If any items are suspicious, the expert has a life hack for checking them:

"One way to see if a device is a camera is to shine a bright light at it. If you hit a camera lens it's going to give a blueish reflection"

Marcus demonstrated this method on an alarm clock. When a beam of light shines directly on the screen, the camera lens is clearly visible.

The blogger noted that the life hack with light can be tested on a smartphone. If you direct a bright light on it, you can see the camera illuminate. This usually works only on the front camera, as the rear camera is equipped with an IR filter.
