How to clean your hairbrush to a shine: a simple solution will help

Keeping our personal care items clean is essential for our health, especially when it comes to our hair. A comb or brush accumulates dirt, such as dead hair, residue from styling products, or sebum, on a daily basis. In such an environment, harmful bacteria and fungi can begin to grow.

Step 1: Remove hair from bristles

All hairs that collect on the teeth or bristles should be removed in time. Remove what you can with your hands, carefully cut off the rest and remove it with another comb or toothpick.

Step 2. Use a cleaning solution

To disinfect and clean the comb without damaging it, prepare a simple solution. Add a few drops of your shampoo and a tablespoon of baking soda to enough warm water to soak the tools. If you want to enhance the disinfectant properties of the solution, apply a few drops of tea tree or eucalyptus oil to the baking soda before adding it. This tool is suitable for soaking plastic or metal brushes. It is better to wipe wooden tools with it without full immersion.

Step 3: Soak and clean

Soak combs and brushes made of waterproof materials in the cleaning solution for 10-15 minutes. Then, without taking them out, brush them with an old toothbrush, removing all the dirt between the bristles. Pay special attention to the areas at the base.

Step 4: Rinse

After cleaning, rinse the brush under warm running water. For wooden tools, wipe off any residue with a damp cloth.

Step 5: Dry thoroughly

Drying is a critical step in the cleaning process to prevent mold growth. Shake off any excess water from the comb and place it on a clean towel with the bristles facing out. Let it lie there until it is completely dry. Do not use a hair dryer to dry and do not place the brush directly in the sun as heat can deform the bristles or damage the brush.
