How to clean towels from mold odor: a simple life hack will help

Humidity, heat, and poor ventilation are ideal conditions for mold growth. It can appear on both bath and kitchen towels. Also, an unpleasant musty odor can appear in an overflowing laundry basket.

As soon as you notice an odor, you should wash the towels immediately, as mold can also cause damage and discoloration to fabrics.

How to remove mold odor from towels

Soaking

Fill a bucket or sink with warm water and add 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Immerse your towels in the liquid and leave them there for 30 minutes. The acid should eliminate the odor-causing bacteria.

Washing

After soaking, put your towels in the washing machine and set it to the hottest temperature allowed for your towels. Then add your regular detergent and 1/2 cup of baking soda.

Drying

Don't leave your towels wet for too long after washing, as mold can reappear. If you have a tumble dryer, choose a high temperature. If not, hang your towels in the sun.

How to prevent musty odors on towels

• Do not leave towels wet and make sure they are completely dry before putting them in the closet;
• Ventilate the bathroom regularly;
• Do not forget to wash towels once a week.
