Holidays in Poland: where to go with children in winter

Sophia ZakrevskaNews
There are a number of options for families with children in Poland

Winter can be a great time to visit a new country as the flow of tourists decreases significantly due to the cool weather. For Ukrainians, Poland is one of the closest and most affordable options, and it will be a great place to spend winter vacations with children.

Polish tourist organization told us about the locations worth visiting with your kids. They recommended both free options and those that require tickets.

What places in Poland can be visited for free:

- In winter, you can join the all-Polish bird campaign Hodivnychka. This event is organized by ornithologists who talk about bird banding, teach how to recognize birds in cities and forests, and how to properly feed birds in winter.

- You can also follow in the footsteps of mini guides, gnomes, and small figures of people associated with certain cities. In Wałbrzych, Tarnów Góra and Olkusz, there are routes of miners: former miners who had permission to extract ore. And Wroclaw has famous gnomes, one of the city's modern symbols. You can also find gnomes in Suwałki, and in Trzebnica there is a Cat Trail with figures of furry animals.

- In Krakow, you can climb the steps of the Clock Tower to see the medieval Market Square from above (Monday), see the ruins of ancient Krakow, and "meet" Queen Jadwiga in an interactive museum with holograms under the market square near Sukęnice (Tuesday, tickets must be booked online).

- There are many museums in Poland that offer free days for entry at certain times. In addition, it is worth remembering that children under 5-7 years old are usually admitted free of charge to paid institutions, and teenagers get a discount.

- "In most Polish cities, there are forests or plantations with marked walking trails in the vicinity, so go for a winter picnic. Take a thermos flask of hot tea or, if the area allows, make a fire and fry sausages. This is also a pleasant entertainment for both children and adults," the organisation recommends.

Places with paid tickets:

- Afrykarium in the Wrocław Zoo is a great option if you want to experience a tropical climate on cold winter days.

- The new zoo Orientarium ZOO Łódź. According to the organization, there is the largest Indian elephant in Europe, Sumatran orangutans, giant crocodiles, 1300 fish, including sharks and rays, in a 26-meter transparent underwater tunnel.

- In some places, you can not only look at interesting exhibits or animals in the zoo but also take part in workshops. For example, in the The Living Museum of Gingerbread in Toruń or the Obwarzanek Living Museum (Krakow Bagel) in Krakow.

- You can also spend your time actively in thermal pools and water parks, and find adventure on underground tourist routes (for example, in the Black Trout Adit in the Tarnów Mountains with a boat ride across an underground lake).
