He lasted 12 matches: "Shakhtar" fires head coach

Oleksandr ChekanovNews
Patrick van Leeuwen left Shakhtar

The head coach of Shakhtar Donetsk, Patrick van Leeuwen, has been dismissed due to the poor start to the new football season. The Dutch specialist took over the team on July 3 this year and managed to play 12 matches with the Orange and Blacks in all tournaments.

This is stated on the official website of the "miners". Under Van Leeuwen's leadership, the Donetsk team played nine matches in the Premier League, two in the Champions League, and one more in the National Cup. "Shakhtar" won seven games, drew three times and suffered two defeats, with a goal difference of 24-15.

Van Leeuwen has played the fewest matches in Shakhtar's history at the helm of the Donetsk team, if we don't count Oleksiy Drozdenko (six matches), who in 1999 served as the Pitmen's coach after the resignation of Russian Anatoly Byshovets.

Interestingly, the day before, the Orange-and-Blacks had a sparring match with Rukh, and afterward the Dutch specialist shared his plans for the season.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on October 4, Shakhtar Donetsk made a fantastic comeback in the Champions League match, beating Antwerp 3-2.
