Social media users were touched by a photo taken on January 2 after the Russian shelling of Kyiv. In the picture, you can see a policeman carrying a cat wrapped in a towel, rescued from a house that was hit by the debris of a downed missile.

This was reported by the NPU press service with reference to a TV report. Currently, the four-legged animal is safe with its owners.

"A photo of a policeman with a rescued cat from a house damaged by Russians yesterday (January 2) went viral. Journalists tracked down the law enforcement officer and his colleagues who were rescuing people from a high-rise building in the Solomyansky district of the capital," the statement said.

The law enforcement officers who rescued the animal were Ihor Berezansky, Oleksandr Makiyevsky, and Danylo Khasaya. According to them, two residents of the building were looking for their pets and did not want to leave the smashed apartment without them.

"We (in the house - Ed.) found two people looking for their pets. We caught one of them, and the other one started to run away," said one of the police officers.

Ihor Berezansky, who is pictured in the popular photo, added that the fugitive cat ran up the stairs, climbed through the window and was about to jump down.

"I grabbed him, hugged him and went downstairs," the policeman summarized.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, in Kyiv, rescuers of the State Emergency Service rescued two parrots during the aftermath of a Russian missile attack. The owner of the birds did not hold back her emotions and hugged the firefighters with tears.
