Google Chrome update on iPhone: what features are now available
iPhone users who prefer the Google Chrome browser will soon notice a whole list of new features. Previously, they were available for the Android operating system, but they have finally reached Apple devices.
According to Engadget, Google Lens will now allow you to add text to image searches, and you will be able to save files and images directly to Google Drive and Photos. In addition, the Shopping Insights feature will start working for the products you browse.
So adding words to Google Lens visual search will allow you to make queries more precise. Or "perform more complex and specific searches," as Chrome product manager Katerina Muradyan wrote in her blog post. Once Lens is activated, by clicking on the camera icon in the Chrome search bar, you can ask questions about the object you are photographing. In response, the browser will provide relevant results. Google also says that AI reviews will also be displayed for some search results.
According to experts, this feature has some similarities with Apple's Intelligence feature for iPhone 16 owners in iOS 18.2, which is currently in beta testing. Visual Intelligence allows you to point the camera at anything and get information about it, including ChatGPT questions about it or a Google search.
In addition, Chrome for iPhone will now have a feature that allows you to save a file directly to Google Drive or Google Photos. This eliminates the need to use your phone's internal storage. When saving files from Chrome, you will see a new option to save the file to disk. Similarly, when viewing the photo you want to save, press and hold and you will see a new option "Save to Google Photos" added to the context menu. Of course, this feature requires you to sign in to your Google account.
Chrome for iOS also adds a feature that brings up a mini-map when you tap on an address. Look for underlined links to specific addresses. If you tap on it, the browser will take you to the mini-map.
Finally, Google is adding Shopping Insights for US users. The company describes it as a way to help you find the best prices for the products you buy. However, experts warn that such a list may contain offers for which the company charges a fee, and it is unlikely that such a feature could have appeared solely for the sake of user convenience. The "Good Deal Now" alert will appear in the Chrome address bar when you browse products for which it is available. You will see details such as price history, tracking, and purchase options if you click on them.
