Giant "trees" formed on a frozen river in China: an incredible natural phenomenon was shown in a photo

Tree-shaped patterns appear on the frozen Qiantang River in China. This incredible natural phenomenon has been repeatedly recorded on this river in winter.

This miracle happens in Hangzhou, in the Chinese province of Zhejiang. Amid a cold wave, natural forest patterns, also known as "tide trees," appeared on the frozen muddy soils, HangzhouChina writes.

Due to the cold weather, the muddy and sandy banks of the Qiantang River freeze in winter. When the tides of seawater wash away the sediment, the frost paints incredible pictures of nature on the coast, scientists say.

The Qiantang River flows for over 500 kilometers through Zhejiang, passing through the provincial capital of Hangzhou before emptying into the East China Sea through Hangzhou Bay south of Shanghai.

The river is known for having the world's largest tidal well, which the locals call the "Silver Dragon."
