Kajal looks like a regular pencil, but it does not contain graphite or abrasive particles and is multifunctional. This cosmetic product originates from South Asia. In India, kajal has long been used not only by women but also by men, the elderly, and children, believing that it can protect the eyes from dust, sun, wind, and infections.

Kajal can be used to paint the eyes along the growth line of the upper and lower eyelashes. Store-bought kajal is shaped like a stick with a pointed tip. Experts told us how to make high-quality and safe kajal at home.

How to make kajal

Kajal has a soft texture. This cosmetic product leaves a clear and oily mark on the skin. You can use kajal to draw delicate areas near the eye mucosa without pressing. Kajal has a richer pigmentation than a pencil.

Almond and castor oils, which are traditionally part of this product, provide nourishment, and camphor has a cooling effect and can help soothe the eyes.

A quick 10-minute recipe is gaining popularity online, offering a chemical-free alternative to store-bought products.

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons almond oil;
  • 2 teaspoons of castor oil;
  • a small piece of camphor;
  • 1 teaspoon of ghee clarified butter;
  • cotton wick;
  • a small metal or clay bowl.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: start by mixing almond and castor oils in a small bowl. These oils are known for their nutritional properties and will be the basis for the kajal.
  2. Place the cotton wick in the mixture and let it soak well. This wick will be used to create the soot needed for the incense burner.
  3. Once soaked, light the cotton wick. Place a small metal or clay bowl over the flame. Be careful at this stage to avoid burns and accidents.
  4. Let the wick burn completely, collecting the soot on the bottom of the bowl. This process usually takes about 5-7 minutes.
  5. When enough soot has accumulated, turn off the fire and carefully scrape the soot into a clean container. Add the ghee and mix thoroughly to form a smooth paste.
  6. Let the mixture cool before transferring it to a small airtight container. Natural kajal is ready to use.
