Former world boxing champion taken to a psychiatric hospital
Former world boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (53-6-1, 34 KOs) was admitted to a psychiatric hospital after his wife called the police, TMZ.com reports. The woman said that her 37-year-old husband had taken a lot of dangerous pills, so she was worried about his safety.
The media do not provide details. It is only known that the incident occurred in California. Officials decided to keep Chavez in a psychiatric hospital. According to the law, certain individuals, including police officers and doctors, are authorized to detain people if they "pose a danger to themselves or others" and place them under observation for 72 hours "for assessment and crisis intervention."
Chavez's family is deeply concerned about his condition, and his father, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. expressed his concern for his son, given that he has children.
"I feel sorry for him because he has young children and he is missing the opportunity to spend time with them. I am incredibly worried that he is at risk of losing his mind and getting into a serious accident, especially if he drives at night at high speed. I'm also worried about the risk of a heart attack caused by all those pills," said Chavez Sr.
As a reminder, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last entered the ring in December 2021, where he defeated David Zegarra by unanimous decision.
