If you deceive the bulbous flowers, they will arrange a real spring as early as December

What do we miss most in winter? Warmth, sunshine, live greenery and, of course, flowers. That's why we start buying bouquets more often in the winter months. But with a few tricks, you can make a real flower bed of spring flowers at home or in a greenhouse.

Express asked experts about life hacks that can speed up the flowering of bulbous spring flowers. All you have to do is trick their biological clock. Then they can please you with flowering in December.

To do this, you need to create conditions close to winter conditions for the dug bulbs back in October. After digging them out of the flower bed, the rhizomes should be transplanted into pots filled with suitable soil and placed in a dark and cold room.

Most types of flowering bulbous plants are also suitable for forcing: crocuses, tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, or amaryllis. In the pots where these plants will be transferred, a peat-free substrate is filled one-third full. The bulb is placed in it with the pointed end up. If several bulbs are planted in one pot, it is important to make sure that they do not touch each other. After that, the substrate is added to the container almost to the top.

After transplanting the bulbs, each pot should be watered abundantly and taken to a cool place. This can be a shed or garage. A balcony is also suitable, but in this case, the plant will need to be covered from sunlight. For example, cover the pot with a paper bag - it will block the rays, but allow air to penetrate inside.

Check the pots from time to time and make sure that the soil remains moist, but not wet. As soon as you see the smallest green sprouts on the surface of the soil, move the pots to a warm place. In a few weeks, the plant will develop sufficiently and bloom.

Bulbs that you have artificially driven out of season can be put back into storage after the flowering period. Simply cut off the withered flowers, leaving the leaves intact. Place the bulbs in a bright, sheltered place, such as on a windowsill, and water them regularly until the leaves wilt naturally. After that, dry the bulbs and save them for replanting next fall.
