On the night of May 19, Ukrainian drones attacked the Russian military airfield "Kushchevskaya" in the Krasnodar Territory. Russia claimed that almost 60 drones were allegedly shot down over the region during the night attack, and remained silent about the consequences of the attack.

But there were consequences: judging by satellite images, at least two Russian fighter jets were hit during the attack, and the third is in doubt. Aviation expert Anatolii Khrapchynskyi came to these conclusions when analyzing images from the Planet Labs satellite at the request of the "Schemes" project and the Russian service of Radio Liberty.

The "Schemes" journalists received the latest Planet Labs satellite images that captured the territory of the Kushchevskaya airfield after the attack on the night of May 19. After examining them, Khrapchynskyi spotted at least two damaged Russian fighters, Su-27 and Su-34, and one more, Su-30, in doubt.

"We see a Su-34 with damaged or removed wings, and a damaged Su-27 in another part of the airfield. A Su-30 could also have been damaged, as it has hardly changed its position since May 11 and is located next to the damaged Su-27," the expert noted.

According to Khrapchynskyi, the Kushchevskaya airfield was used as a training base for the Krasnodar Higher Military Aviation School: Russia trained future pilots there.

However, after the start of the full-scale aggression against Ukraine, the airfield was no less actively used for attacks on Ukraine.

Interestingly, after the attack on May 19, which, according to sources, was carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine, the occupiers took most of the aircraft from the airfield.

The morning after the strike on Kushchevskaya and several other military facilities in Russia, the Russian Defense Ministry boasted that it had allegedly "shot down" 57 Ukrainian drones over the Krasnodar Territory alone. They traditionally kept silent about how many of them hit their targets and what damage the aggressor suffered.
