A coupe car is always an elegant and stylish choice. However, it is not uncommon for an attractive car to boast of outstanding specs too.

The best coupes offer the performance, dynamics, and looks of a sports car but with an extra dose of practicality as this type of car often has more luggage space and more comfortable interiors, as well as better weather protection. The Autoexpress has compiled a list of the best coupes with quite a modest price tag.

Porsche 911

The Porsche 911 is a supercar at least in terms of the performance offered by the high-class models. It is practically a legend that is recognizable at first sight. However, despite its incredible performance, even in the basic Carrera 2WD configuration, it is a very fast car. The 911 is also much more practical than most of its competitors. This is a true four-seater that also offers decent luggage space. However, such a luxurious vehicle is not cheap.

BMW 4 Series

The BMW 4 Series is a car created according to principles that have lost some of their popularity. However, this only adds to the advantages of this model. Based on the 3 Series sedan, the 4 Series offers both a coupe body and a convertible top. This is a stylish and reasonably sized car with an upscale interior and a good selection of reliable engines, namely a 182-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit in the 420i or a mild 3.0 turbocharged hybrid in the 272-horsepower 440i XDrive. The price of this car is called one of the best in the segment.

Alpine A110

If ever a car became an instant classic, it was the Alpine A110. Recreated in 2017, the Renault legend from Alpine was the first in a series of retro models to appear in the lineup of the French manufacturer. It is as beautiful and impressive as the original. However, this great appearance comes at a compromise. The two-seater cabin is cozy, but the driving position is a disaster, and the touchscreen is called uncomfortable and unresponsive. Luggage space is also limited to two compartments, neither of which is particularly spacious. However, the driving experience of the A110 is absolutely fantastic even though its 1.8-liter turbocharged engine isn't particularly fuel-efficient.

Porsche 718 Cayman

If you can't afford a 911 but still want a Porsche with a rear-mounted engine and a classic coupe profile, the 718 Cayman is for you. The price of the standard base is quite modest. At the same time, you get all the classic Porsche advantages - a flat-floor cabin, low driving position, precise steering, excellent handling and impressive build quality. Even the entry-level model with the 2.0-liter opposed four-cylinder engine has 296 hp, but if you want a six-cylinder model in the best Porsche tradition, it offers a 4.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine.

BMW 2 Series

Oddly enough, one of the most affordable coupes on the market bears the BMW brand name. We are talking about the 2 Series. The entry-level version with a 2.0-liter engine is quite lively and offers 182 hp, while the liter M240i M Sport XDrive comes with all-wheel drive and a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine that produces 272 hp. The car offers great handling, is stylish, and its compact size makes it a good choice for those who live in the city but want a lively car. The only drawback is the lack of interior and luggage space.

Porsche Taycan

A stylish coupe can also be practical, as the Porsche Taycan proves. The German company's four-door GT is a luxury electric super coupe with excellent build quality, striking style, and surprising fuel-efficiency. The entry-level car has a 79.5 kWh battery pack and a range of about 410 km, but if you buy the Performance Battery Plus with its 93.5 kWh pack, you increase it to 505 km (WLTP) for the 300 kW model or 575 km for the 320 kW version. However, you will have to pay more for such a bonus.

Audi e-tron GT

The flagship Audi e-tron GT was created to stand out from the rest of the brand's electric lineup and has never been sold in large quantities. In addition, the German company controlled the resale value by limiting supplies. Imports stopped in 2024, but there are a number of models that are still available in stock if you want to get a new car. You will get a truly special car with top-of-the-line technology. The 500 hp electric motor is incredibly fast - in the RS configuration, it provides 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 2.8 seconds.

Mercedes CLE

This extremely beautiful car is considered a more elegant alternative to the BMW 4 Series. It's also beautifully built, but it costs more than its German rival. It is a compact coupe in a traditional style with a great interior and a decent level of technology. The powertrain choice includes mild hybrid gasoline models that offer the best value for money. The downside is that they can be expensive to maintain in the long run. The base four-cylinder model is basically quite lively, while the AMG Line models feature some clever styling details and a sportier suspension setup.

Ford Mustang

No list of the best coupes would be complete without one of the greatest cars of all time, the iconic Ford Mustang. However, this is not an electric model, but a traditional one with rear-wheel drive and a V8 engine. It's a stunning car, considering its equipment and performance, with a 450-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 engine, a six-speed manual transmission, and a 0-60 mph acceleration time of just 4.8 seconds. Of course, it's a "dinosaur" compared to most modern coupes, but fans of muscle cars wouldn't want to change anything. Large V8-powered sports coupes are rare these days, and the Mustang is one of the last of a dying breed.

Mercedes CLA

With the latest generation of the A-Class, Mercedes has attracted a new generation of buyers with a price that can compete with several more popular models, as well as an interesting lineup of offers to buy them. And it worked. The CLA is an offshoot of the A-Class, which means it uses the same platform and a wide range of engines and offers prices that make it very attractive. The caveat is that the CLA is not something exceptional in terms of its dynamic capabilities or equipment, and you have to spend money on a better variant to get a car with really good performance.
