In Geneva, Switzerland, a rare blue diamond was sold at auction for nearly $44 million, making it one of the most expensive blue diamonds ever to go under the hammer. It weighs 17.61 carats and is embedded in a pink gold and platinum ring.

This was reported by Global News. It is noted that the ring includes 2 additional diamonds.

"The other two diamonds have a pear-shaped cut weighing 3.12 carats and 3.07 carats, respectively. The three diamonds are attached to a ring made of platinum and 18-carat pink gold," the statement said.

It is emphasized that before the sale, the ring was in a private collection. It had never been put up for auction before.

At the same time, it is noted that the blue diamond sold at the auction is "internally flawless". Moreover, according to Prestige, it is also "exceptionally rare."

"An exceptionally rare blue diamond was sold under the hammer in Geneva for $43.8 million. This made it one of the most expensive blue diamonds ever put up for sale in the history of auctions," analysts said.

The auction was a tense struggle

The auction itself lasted 7 minutes. They were held in a tense atmosphere "between three potential buyers".

"It is not yet clear who purchased the diamond. Three interested buyers fought for seven minutes to place a bid that would allow them to win the impressive gem," Global News reported.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, a blue sapphire previously mined in Sri Lanka was sold at auction for about $1.33 million. The rough gem weighed 99 carats.
