Extending the life of your car is easy: 10 tips for drivers

Caring owner and protection from weather conditions are the key to a long car life

Correct and careful operation is the main condition for the longevity of any thing. Especially when it comes to such a complex and multi-component mechanism as a car. Timely technical inspection and appropriate maintenance will help keep it in good condition. But driving habits also play a significant role here.

OBOZREVATEL has collected 10 tips to help you use your car safely. Together with responsible behavior on the road, this can significantly extend the life of the car and keep it in good condition for all this time.

Know your car thoroughly

Before you use any gadget, you need to study the instructions for it. A car is no exception. You should know what signals it can give you in case of a breakdown, what the symbols on its controls mean. Also, listen carefully to how the car works in normal mode and learn to recognize extraneous sounds - they will help you hear a breakdown before it becomes critical.

Don't use bad roads

Regularly driving on roads with a lot of potholes, cracks, and unexpected obstacles like stones and branches will quickly damage the undercarriage of your car. It can be time-consuming and costly to repair. Therefore, if you can choose a longer route but with better coverage, you should do so.

Take care of the engine condition

The engine is compared to the heart in the human body. This comparison is rather arbitrary, but the importance of both for the mechanism and the body is approximately the same. So it's true that you need to take care of your engine just as much. Warm it up properly before starting to drive, because it is at the moment of startup, when this unit is forced to work with cold and thick oil, that the fastest wear occurs. Do not abuse the dynamic increase in revs before the engine warms up. Sometimes give it an increased load, driving the tachometer to almost maximum values - dynamic start can have a certain positive effect. But do not abuse such "training". And try to avoid traveling very short distances. If you are going to buy bread in the neighborhood, it will be useful for you to walk, and you will save your car, because it will not warm up properly during this journey.

Use your car regularly

At the same time, a car that just sits in a garage like a museum piece also deteriorates quickly - parts begin to corrode, the battery dies, tires deteriorate, and so on. Try to go out at least once a week. But, again, not to the next neighborhood, but to a longer distance.

Do not drive with an empty tank

The fuel system is not designed to operate in near-empty mode. In this case, impurities that are present in any modern fuel accumulate at the bottom of the tank and begin to clog the fuel filter, pump, and injectors. Therefore, refuel your iron horse on time.

Keep an eye on the battery

In a modern car, many components and systems consume a significant amount of electricity. Some of them, such as the alarm system or immobilizer, require power even when the car is stationary. That's why it's important to keep your car battery charged. If it remains deeply discharged for a long time, it will only need to be replaced.

Take care of the seals

Rubber seals protect the interior from the elements - they keep sounds out and block dust and water from entering. But to perform their function well, they need to be flexible enough. To do this, they need to be lubricated at least once a year. And don't jerk them by force when, for example, the doors freeze to the body in winter.

Keep an eye on the condition of the wiper blades

Wiper blades are also a rubber part that requires special attention. They are constantly under the influence of external circumstances, such as frost or heat, rain, snow, or small debris falling on the windshield. All this accelerates the wear of rubber. And in a dry state, it not only fails to perform its function correctly, but can also scratch the glass, which will impair the view of the road and may eventually lead to the replacement of the entire part. Therefore, it is better to replace inexpensive "wipers" in time.

Don't forget to use air conditioning

The climate control system of a car is considered to be a rather expensive unit. But no cost of its operation can be compared to the cost of its repair. Namely, you will need it if you do not use the car air conditioner at all. In this case, the seals in its system deteriorate and other components fail, which will have to be replaced completely.

Find a garage

Parking in the open air will do nothing but harm to your car. Precipitation, heat, frost - all of this accelerates body corrosion and wear and tear on parts. That's why it's best to store your car under a canopy. Even the simplest garage will be a better solution than an open parking lot.
