Everyone dreams of them: Japanese cars worth buying

Car rating

Japanese cars have been gaining momentum in recent years. Such brands as Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Mazda have secured a high place in the car market and are famous for their reliability and quality.

Japanese automakers offer the best value for money and always keep up with the trends by introducing technological innovations. Experts talked about the top 5 such cars worth paying attention to.

"In nearly 20 years in business, we have found that the Japanese makes have earned their spot as our go-to recommended vehicles," said Mark Beneke, owner of Westland Auto Inc.

Mazda 3 and Mazda 6

Popular Mazdas take the first place in Beneke's rating.

"They are vehicles that our data shows require fewer emergency repairs, less problems for our members, fewer returns and have performed best out of our accounts," the expert emphasized. However, this brand is less popular in the US than in Europe.

The updated Mazda 6 has not yet been officially released, but according to preliminary data, its price will start at $36,000.

The Mazda 3 has a Bose audio system with 12 speakers for exquisite sound. A 2.5-liter turbo engine with up to 250 hp is also available.

The 2021 Mazda 6 model is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that develops up to 250 hp.

Toyota Camry and Corolla

"The Camry and Corolla are both dependable vehicles that are well-known for being reliable — so much so that it has allowed them to retain their value even after many years of use," Beneke said.

The Corolla is the cheapest car in this ranking. The Camry model is available in all-wheel drive and features a 7-inch touchscreen with six speakers, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Corolla is equipped with automatic climate control, remote control and an 8-inch touchscreen.

Honda Civic and Accord

"Civics and Accords carry both reliability and style," said Beneke.

The Honda Civic has a 2-liter 158 hp engine with a continuously variable transmission, a 7-inch touchscreen and push-button start. The authoritative Car and Driver magazine ranked the Honda Civic first in the compact car rating.

The Honda Accord is equipped with a 192 hp turbocharged engine, a multi-view rearview camera, automatic climate control, remote engine start and an automated safety system.

Subaru

"If you want a Japanese make and need all-wheel-drive, Subaru is it. All of their models are known to be sturdy and high quality," said Beneke.

The 2024 Impreza will be the most affordable model. The car has Subaru's standard symmetrical all-wheel drive, driver assistance technology, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

The next available model will be the 2024 Subaru Legacy priced from $24,895. The car is equipped with driver-assist technology, a rearview camera, and active torque vectoring.

The most popular Subaru model, according to sales in 2022, was the Crosstrek. The 2024 model will start at $24,995. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces 152 hp.

The most expensive Subaru model is the 2023 Solterra, the first all-electric SUV. The price starts at $44,995. The Solterra gets a combined 104 MPGe, with 360 to charge, symmetrical all-wheel drive, all-terrain capability, 8.3 inches of ground clearance, and dual X-MODE® mode with settings for snow, mud, and deep snow to make off-road navigation easier.
