European countries that offer the most and least paid vacations. Comparative table

How long does a vacation in the EU countries last

The issue of vacation and recreation is very important in the civilized world. For example, in the European Union, paid vacation lasts for four weeks a year, or at least 20 days. Some countries are more caring about their citizens' vacations and therefore provide 25 days of relaxation.

According to Euronews, citing the European Employment Service (EURES), vacation not only helps to improve mental and physical health but also increases productivity after returning to work. Eighteen EU countries have 20 days of minimum annual paid vacation, while only five have the maximum number, 25.

Austria, France, Luxembourg, Sweden and Denmark are among the top five. However, employers have the opportunity to increase the number of vacation days, mostly due to length of service, type of contract, and profession.

The comparative table shows that Slovakia, Lithuania, and Latvia have the largest number of public holidays, 15. Therefore, in total, the countries have at least 35 days of rest each. Greece has the lowest number of public holidays, only 6, so its citizens have only 26 days of rest together with paid vacation.

When you combine minimum paid vacation and public holidays in the EU, Austria and Malta offer the longest vacation time at 38 days. The average figure among European countries is 33 days.
