The decisive match is scheduled for May 26

The Canadian national ice hockey team, the reigning world champion, sensationally failed to reach the final of the 2024 World Cup. In the semifinal match, André Tourigny's team lost to Switzerland in a series of post-match shootouts. The main time ended with a score of 2:2.

From the very beginning, the Canadians appeared on the ice dismantled, completely giving the initiative to the opponent. In the first period, with an interval of 4 minutes, the Swiss realized a power play, taking a 2-0 lead.

With 6 minutes left in the second 20 minutes, the Canadians reduced the deficit, and in the 58th minute of the match, John Tavares converted a man advantage and sent the match to overtime.

In the extra five minutes, the audience did not see any goals scored, despite the fact that Switzerland played 2 minutes on the power play due to a manpower violation.

The fate of the ticket to the final was decided by a series of shootouts, where the 7th team in the IIHF world rankings proved to be more confident. This will be Switzerland's first World Championship final since 2018. In their history, the red and whites have never won a World Championship gold medal.
