Dramatic denouement. The world champion senselessly lost his victory at the Biathlon World Cup

The French athlete was one of the leaders in the sprint

Two-time Olympic and two-time world biathlon champion Quentin Fillon Maillet lost his sprint victory at World Cup 8 as he earned a two-minute penalty. The 31-year-old Frenchman forgot to go to the penalty lap after missing the standing shooting.

Having shot cleanly on the prone, Fillon Maillet was one of the leaders and claimed victory. After the penalty, Kenten took 31st place in the final protocol with a gap of 1:34.8 behind the winner.

Given that biathletes average a 23-second penalty lap, Fillon Maillet would have likely finished first if he hadn't broken the rules.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, Eric Perrault sensationally won the sprint stage in the United States. For the 22-year-old Frenchman, it became the first "gold" in his career in individual racing.

Ukraine, which was represented by five athletes in this discipline, could not boast of high results. The best among our biathletes was Artem Pryma, who finished 39th.

The day before, the U.S. biathlon team took the highest place in the history of World Cups in the relay. The American team of Vincent Bonacci, Sean Doherty, Campbell Wright and Jake Brown sensationally finished fourth at the 8th stage of the World Cup in Soldier Hollow (Salt Lake City, USA).
