The Kh-101 missile used by Russia to strike Okhmatdyt had Western parts

The Kh-101 missile that Russia used to strike the Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv on July 8 contains Western components. This indicates that the aggressor country has succeeded in evading the sanctions imposed on it.

This was reported by the Financial Times, citing the opinions of experts and Ukrainian officials. The shelling resulted in deaths and injuries.

"The Kh-101 missile that Russia used to hit the Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv on July 8 contains Western components, which indicates the Kremlin's success in evading sanctions," the report says.

According to Olena Belousova, head of sanctions research at the KSE Institute in Kyiv, Western technologies allow Russia to create these "smarter" missiles that can overcome Ukraine's air defense.

It is noted that an analysis of the Kh-101 missile fired at Ukraine in January revealed 16 Western-made electronic devices. At the same time, two components were manufactured by STMicroelectronics, headquartered in Switzerland. The rest were made by American chipmakers, including Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, and Intel.

An analysis of Russian Federation documents showed that Russian companies in 2023 obtained similar parts by simply buying them on the open market and importing them through China.

"All products are mostly intended for civilian use, and some of them are quite old," the journalists noted.

In addition, the Office of the President of Ukraine concluded that the Kh-101 may contain more than 50 different foreign-made parts.

The Kh-101 is a Russian strategic air-to-ground cruise missile with stealth technologies.
