The French automaker Renault is actively preparing for the presentation of the new Renault 4. It promises to become a bright representative of retro style in the world of electric vehicles.

The prototypes are already being tested on public roads. Autocar has told about it in more detail.

Although the car is well camouflaged, you can already see the styling of the 4Ever concept that was shown at the previous Paris Motor Show. The Renault 4 displays clean, square lines, and key design elements include round LED daytime running lights at the front and compact, column-like brake lights at the rear.

It is important to note that the two-spotted prototypes represent different versions of the car. The first is a basic hatchback with steel wheels, and the other is a crossover with increased ground clearance, which is equipped with alloy wheels, roof rails, and a U-shaped body covering on the sides.

Release dates

Production of the Renault 4 is expected to start next summer after deliveries of the Renault 5 begin. After that, the company will focus on the development of the new Twingo, which is due to appear in 2026.

The model will be presented at the Paris Motor Show, which will run from October 14 to 20.

Interior and technology

The interior of the new Renault 4 will have a dual-screen infotainment system similar to the one in the Renault 5. However, it is likely to feature a unique dashboard design inspired by a classic car.

Technical specifications

The Renault 4 will be based on the Ampr Small EV platform, which is also used by the Renault 5, introduced earlier this year. Both electric vehicles will have the same wheelbase of 2.54 meters.

It is expected that the model will offer three variants of front-wheel drive powertrains with a capacity of 94, 121, and 148 hp, as well as batteries with a capacity of 40 kWh and 52 kWh. Also, the rear axle of the platform is likely to accommodate a second engine, which opens up the possibility of creating an all-wheel drive version of the Renault 4.
