Czech trdelnik: how to make delicious and original pastries
Trdelník is a traditional Czech sweet cake. It is made from yeast dough that is held around a wooden stick.
The top is sprinkled with a mixture of sugar, nuts, and lots of cinnamon. Any filling can be put inside. It tastes best with cream and caramel. Food blogger Yuliia Senych shared how to make trdelnik on Instagram.
Ingredients
- Flour – 300 gr
- Milk – 100 ml
- Dry yeast – 1 tsp.
- Sugar – 2 tbsp
- Butter – 50 gr
- Eggs – 1 pc
- Salt – a pinch
- Sugar + cinnamon – for sprinkling
Method of preparation
1. Add yeast, sugar, and salt to the slightly warm milk.
2. Pour in the melted butter, add the egg, and sift the flour in portions.
3. Knead the soft dough and leave it to rise in a warm place for 1.5 hours.
4. Mix sugar and cinnamon for the sprinkles. You can use tin cans and a cardboard base made from cling film packaging as molds, wrapping them in foil.
5. Knead the dough and divide it into 5-7 equal parts.
6. Roll each piece into a long sausage and wrap it around the molds. Leave to proof for 15 minutes in a warm place.
7. Brush with butter and roll in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
8. If desired, hang the molds on a skewer to make them as similar as possible to those sold in the Czech Republic and bake them in a preheated 180-degree oven for 15-20 minutes. It turns out 5-6 pieces.
