Croatia is in the lead: the 18 most crowded tourist destinations are named
With the development of globalization and increasing accessibility of travel, more and more people are eager to visit the most famous places in the world. However, with popularity comes problems, such as overcrowding.
A recent study has identified 18 of the most crowded tourist destinations where crowds can overshadow all other travel experiences. The list was published by the vacation rental portal Holidu.ch.
Large crowds not only create discomfort while traveling but also cause significant damage to nature and cultural heritage. For example, famous beaches become almost unusable for recreation, and the ancient streets of historic cities lose their charm amid endless lines and crowds.
The increase in the number of tourists also has negative consequences for residents. Often they are forced to adapt to changes in their daily lives associated with increased traffic. In addition, it can affect the availability of housing, and the rise in prices for goods and services.
Based on data for 2023, the number of residents in popular cities was analyzed in proportion to the number of tourists. Based on this, a rating of the most crowded tourist destinations was compiled. Croatia leads the list with 27 tourists per 1 local resident.
